Opposite, Opposition, Onus, Outlook, Owner

The last 5 words that I have for the "Every Woman A CEO" challenge are Opposite, Opposition, Onus, Outlook, and Owner.

At the end of this post I will no longer post at this site.  You can find me at either  Papillionpots.blogspot.com or tarihuffaker.wordwellness.com as I will be carrying on with the 'words' in the Word Wellness program in which I am currently participating.

Opposite:
1.       Standing or situated in front;  facing; as an edifice opposite to the Exchange.
2.       Adverse;  repugnant.
3.       Contrary; as words of opposite significations;  opposite terms.  The medicine had an effect opposite to what was expected.
4.       In botany, growing in pairs, each pair decussated or crossing that above and below it;  as opposite leaves or branches.
(decussated – crossed, intersected)

As I have been working with these words I have been impressed by the sadness of the way our society has changed the words around to mean very nearly the opposite of what they started out to mean.

It is so disturbing to me to hear people say, "That is SICK!" meaning that it is beyond wonderful.  How can this be?  How can we stand for it?  It flows over into other areas of life.

I don't care for being politically correct (which is really a load of prime fertilizer in my opinion) so I am going to be bold.  IT IS NOT OKAY to go against the laws of God for any reason.  Same sex marriage is totally OPPOSITE from God's law.  He did NOT place 2 Adams in the Garden of Eden.  Nor did He place 2 Eve's there.  It is clear!  Our bodies are not made for the abominable practice that 'the world' is embracing.

I know that there is a lot of opposition to my point of view.  It is okay.  I expect it.  But I am comforted by the thought that there are many others who share my point of view.  If statistics are still the same as I studied them out to be years ago, then I have spoken the mind of at least 200 people.  I can live with that.

Opposition:
1.       Situation so as to front something else;  a standing over against;  as the opposition of two mountains or buildings.
2.       The act of opposing;  attempt to check, restrain or defeat.  He makes opposition to the measure;  the bill passed without opposition.  Will any opposition be made to the suit, to the claim or demand?
3.       Obstacle.  The river meets with no opposition in its course to the ocean.
4.       Resistance;   as the opposition of enemies.  Virtue will break through all opposition.
5.       Contrariety;  repugnance in principle;  as the opposition of the heart to the laws of
God.
6.       Contrariety of interests, measures or designs.  The two parties are in opposition to each other.
7.       Contrariety or diversity of meaning;  as one term used in opposition to another
8.       Contradiction;  inconsistency.
9.       The collective body of opposers;  in England, the party in Parliament which opposes the ministry;  in America, the party that opposes the existing administration.
In astronomy, the situation of two heavenly bodies, when distant from each other 180 degrees.

Onus:
1. A difficult or disagreeable responsibility or necessity; a burden or obligation.
2. A stigma.
    Blame.
3. The burden of proof: The onus was on the defense attorney.

[Latin.]

(The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition copyright ©2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company. Updated in 2009. Published by Houghton Mifflin Company. All rights reserved.)

I have made a statement that is best described by the first definition of ONUS.
I guess you can say that I understand this word and therefore I can use it now.  :)  I also know that my conscience is clear in that I have made this statement in a public forum for all the world to see who chooses to..in other forums as well...and I hope many will agree with me, or come to agree with me whichever the case may be.

Outlook:
Vigilant watch;  foresight.
(more commonly said “look-out)

As many could read this post...and some may even be family and friends.  I hope you understand that I am looking out for my posterity...hoping they will know without a doubt what side of the line I stand on as far as this continuing war that began in Heaven is concerned.  I stand firmly on the Lord's side in all things.

Owner:
The rightful proprietor;  one who has the legal or rightful title, whether he is the possessor or not.

He is the owner of my heart.  I have given it to Him.  I serve Him. I love Him.  And each day that I live I work to be worthy of standing in His presence with clean hands and a pure heart, made clean by the atonement of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

This is my testimony, that I know that My Redeemer Lives!  And that He loves each of us the same and wants us all to return to His presence clean and pure.

Obeiscence, Overview, Opportunity, Operation, Original, Outflow, Omniscience, Offering, Optimism

Obeiscence
A bow or courtesy;  an act of reverence made by an inclination of the body or the knee.  Gen. xxxvii
I guess there is a time and a place for this.  It is always when I pray.  But I don't feel inclined to go there with mortals.  In my heart I know that we are much the same...just a different levels of progression.

Overview
From Dictionary.com
a general review or summary of a subject.

This word is so self-explanatory.  Having an overview of any plan or situation is a desirable thing.

Opportunity
1.       Fit or convenient time;  a time favorable for the purpose;  suitable time combined with other favorable circumstances.  Suitableness of time is the predominant signification, but it includes generally circumstances of place and other conveniences adapted to the end desired.
Convenient means.  I had an opportunity of sending the letter, or no opportunity to send it.  Opportunities rarely occur or frequently offer.

This word makes me think of the hymn "Have I Done Any Good?"  The second verse in particular.

There are opportunities all around, just now!  It is hard for me to think of all the time I waste, and all the opportunities that I allow to slip by.  Opportunities for growth, service, etc.  Gotta watch for them and jump on them if I want the blessings of real growth that come from them.

How often do you miss the opportunity to make a new friend?  To learn a new skill?  To repent?

Operation
1.       The act or process of operating;  agency;  the exertion of power, physical, mechanical or moral.
2.       Action;  effect.
3.       Process;  manipulation;  series of acts in experiments;  as in chemistry or metallurgy.
4.       In surgery, any methodical action of the hand, or of the hand with instruments, on the human body, with a view to heal a part diseased, fractured or dislocated, as in amputation, etc.
5.       Action or movements of an army or fleet;  as military or naval operations.
6.       Movement of machinery.
Movements of any physical body.

Agency...that strikes a cord.  I am all for agency.  It is lacking in our current political climate.  We are losing more and more of our agency...no let me say that our society is GIVING it away...to these, these...(Tari, remember that you are a lady.) puffed-up, self-serving, over-paid, amoral, creatures that have been voted and/or assigned to office.

Agency, we lose more and more every day.  The only place we are safe is in our hearts.  But I have to say that the heart is a really good place to have it.  Choose who you serve, love, are kind to , listen to, etc.
"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

Original
1.       First in order;  preceding all others;  as the original state of man;  the original laws of a country;  original rights or powers;  the original question in debate.
Primitive;  pristine;  as the original perfection of Adam.

I think the woman who put this list of words together has been working out how to win in a court battle that she has been involved in for some years now.  I know that these words help her and give her a degree of power.

I am not sure how they should resonate with me at this particular time in my life.  Oh, some of them really have and continue to even now.  I am really not sure how this applies to me unless I embrace my own uniqueness.  If I go there then I know this word fits me.  I am an original...as is any who are reading this blog post...original.  We have thoughts of our own, dreams and desires of our own, even styles of behavior and expressions of our own.

I like that.

Outflow
n.
1. the act of flowing out.
2. something that flows out.
3. any outward movement.
[1790–1800]
Random House Kernerman Webster's College Dictionary, © 2010 K Dictionaries Ltd. Copyright 2005, 1997, 1991 by Random House, Inc. All rights reserved.

I like to link this one to opportunity...and to offering.
I also like to think of it in connection with the Light of Christ.  I believe that the Light of Christ is in all of us.  True, some have added wattage to that light while others haven't quite figured out how to do that, but we all have it.  What do we do with it?

I used to live in a city called Bountiful, Utah.  I loved living there.  My children were happy there.

There is a hill near the house we lived in that my husband and I would walk up every day.  It is quite steep.  It was so hard for me to navigate in the beginning.  I just could NOT get up that hill without many, many stops to catch my breath.

A few days in to our plan to walk every day I was kind of discouraged so I decided to start waving to everyone who passed by.  These people were in their cars taking their kids to school or on their way to work.  Many of them looked so grumpy, sad, preoccupied...not many looked very happy.

Some of those people would go out of their way to totally avoid eye contact.  Others would look at me like I was half crazy.  Others would give a little half-hearted wave.  On occasion there would be someone who would really be happy to wave back.

As time passed more and more of those people would happily wave good morning to me.  Smiling.  Some of the drivers would even encourage the passengers in their car to wave as well.  It was very gratifying to see the change.  I think it brightened everyone's day.

That is the outflow of love for others that comes via the Light of Christ.

The story continues...One day I was walking and I was very sad...crying in fact.  Not feeling like waving, lost in my thoughts.  And what happened?  People would honk to get my attention and smile and wave!!  I am not kidding.  It was amazing to me.  It was not long before I forgot my troubles for the duration of my walk and got lost in the joy of greeting "friends."

The magic of that story is that I never met a single person in those cars.  But we were friends.  Lifting each other up and creating a bright spot in one anothers' lives.

THAT is outflow.

Omniscience
The quality of knowing all things at once;  universal knowledge of all things;  knowledge unbounded or infinite.  Omniscience is an attribute peculiar to God.
I wonder of this is a skill we should be working to acquire.  And if it is how on earth do we go about acquiring it.

I think this word is in this list to remind me that God knows me...inside and out, past, present and future.  I can't fool Him.  He knows.  I can call upon Him for advice, comfort, encouragement, and endless love.  I know He is there and waits for a daily visit.  He knows my heart.

Offering
ppr.  Presenting;  proposing;  sacrificing;  bidding;  presenting to the eye or mind.
noun.  That which is presented in divine service;  an animal or a portion of bread or corn, or of gold and silver, or other valuable articles, presented to God as an atonement for sin, or as a return of thanks for his favors, or for other religious purpose;  a sacrifice;  an oblation.  In the Mosaic economy, there wer burnt-offerings, sin-offerings,  peace-offerings, trespass-offerings, thank-offerings, wave-offerings, and wood-offerings.  Pagan nations also present offerings to their deities.  Christ by the offering of himself has superseded the use of all other offerings, having made atonement for all men.
That walk that I took daily up that hill got easier and easier...until I could do it without even being winded...because I offered a little love along the way.  Oh, you can choose to say that I just got into shape because I didn't give up...but I assure you that if I hadn't made a game of waving at others and then got caught up in the joy of seeing a smile come across a sad face, I never would have kept walking up that hill.
Blessings come from offering service.  My blessing ...I had many from that experience...the memory.  The warm feeling of happiness that comes with the memory.

Optimism
Noun – From the Latin optimus, best.
The opinion or doctrine that every thing in nature is ordered for the best;  or the order of things in the universe that is adapted to produce the most good.

I like this word.  I choose to believe in the best in others and I have chosen to find the best in every situation that I have ever been in.  I have had some very hard things happen in my life.  I know I am not alone in feeling this way.  And I assure you that I am not going to compare my hard times with your hard times in any other way than to say this....
Every hard time has a lesson.  Every lesson can be learned.  When we learn the lesson from that hard time we feel less and less like a victim and more and more like a victor.
I love the movie "PollyAnna" for this very reason.  My favorite part is when she goes to visit the preacher and lets him read her locket...

“If you look for the bad in people expecting to find it, you surely will.”

She taught the whole town how to look up and smile...and then when she was miserable they brought a smile to her face...just like the folks in Bountiful did for me that day.
There is always, always room for optimism.

More than a week behind - feeling a bit overwhelmed - but Onward and Upward! Right?

Catching up all the way from the 21st of April.  Daunting when you think that today is the 29th.  I feel like Madmartigan in Willow...you know...when he was in Tir Asleen and he has just dealt with a troll and now he has to deal with the two headed dragon.  Do you remember his body language?  How he heaved a big sigh and then jumped out onto one of the dragon's heads.  Well, I think I know how he feels.  When you leave a task so long it becomes a double headed dragon and it just has to be dealt with.

The word for Wednesday 21 April 2014 was OBJECT
To throw against.
1.       To oppose;  to present in opposition.
2.       To present or offer in opposition, as a charge criminal, or as a reason adverse to something supposed to be erroneous or wrong;  with to or against
v.i.
·         To oppose in words or arguments;  to offer reasons against.  The council objected to the admission of the plaintiff’s witnesses.
A.
Opposed;  presented in opposition.

I am not really sure how to use this word in an Upward way.  As I ponder I am thinking that is was chosen for this program because the creator is going through such a struggle in the court system the last couple of years.  It is afterall her program.
How can I apply it in my life?  Well, I chose to object to the promptings of the adversary on a daily, sometimes moment by moment, basis.  I have no desire whatsoever to be counted in the least way in his ranks.
My stand is with Jesus Christ.  I just won't knowingly agree with the adversary.  As the adversary is my, and Jesus Christ's opposition then I stand in a constant state of objection to him.

The word for Thursday 22 April 2014  was OBJECTIVE
1.       Belonging to the object; contained in the object.
In grammar, the objective case is that which follows a transitive verb or a preposition;  that case in which the object of the verb is placed, when produced or affected by the act expressed by the verb.

What?  I am lost here.  I wonder what another dictionary has to say about this word.
adjective
  1. 1.
(of a person or their judgment) not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts.
"historians try to be objective and impartial"

  2. 2.
    GRAMMAR
of, relating to, or denoting a case of nouns and pronouns used as the object of a transitive verb or a preposition.
noun
  1. 1.
a thing aimed at or sought; a goal.
"the system has achieved its objective"
    synonyms:aimintentionpurposetargetgoalintentobjectendMore
  2. 2.
    GRAMMAR
    the objective case.

Okay...here is something that I can identify with.  "A thing aimed at or sought;  a goal."

I think it is really important to set and achieve goals.  I feel it is imperative to have a plan.  A long term and a daily plan.  Direction is important.  Setting a course to reach a long term goal is not only important but very satisfying and gratifying.
I am using this program as a part of a plan to reach a specific goal.  I know that personal growth is important.  I believe this program is helping me do something that has always been really hard for me to do.  Looking inward can be pretty painful but as I use this program I am finding that if I take it in small increments it is far less painful than I thought it would be.  And I can make adjustments.  They don't even have to start out as big adjustments.  Small increments made regularly can create huge results...still always moving forward in a positive direction.  Sure, there may be a little discomfort but I am finding that the pain I was worried about has not really presented itself.

The word for Friday 23 April 2014 was OTHERS
Residue
1.       Not the same;  different;  not this or these.
2.       Not this, but the contrary; as, on this side of the river stands Troy, on the other side stands Albany.
3.       Noting something besides.  To the knowledge of the Latin and Greek, join as much other learning as you can.
4.       Correlative to each, and applicable to any number of individuals.
5.       Opposed to some: as, “some fell among thorns – but others fell into good ground.”  Matt xiii
6.       The next.
The third part.

The first thing that comes to my mind is -- "Other sheep have I which are not of this fold."
There are many peoples out there searching for the Light and the truth.  And there are many out there that have found truth and Light.  I am grateful for all that they share with me in order to help me along my journey.
It is important for me to remember that I am not the only person who has ever experienced sadness, frustration, pain, weakness, weariness, joy, love, kindness, satisfaction, etc., etc.  There are others.  There are those who I can look to and glean much understanding and knowledge without having to experience it first hand.

The word for Saturday 24 April 2014 was OUTCOME

This is a great word...especially for right now.  This word helps me to keep going to the end.
From Merrriam-Webster dictionary:
: something that happens as a result of an activity or process.
From Dictionary.com
1.       a final product or end result; consequence; issue.

2.       a conclusion reached through a process of logical thinking.

Noah's 1828 dictionary doesn't have this word.  So I had to look elsewhere.  But I can identify with these definitions.
Obviously I would like the outcome of this program to be that I am a perfected and purified person ready for translation and entry into the kingdom of God.  Well, that IS what I want ultimately.  The program could help me along the road to that end.
I think that because I am trying to reach that goal and using all the tools I can find to help me along the way that this is a worthy goal.  I think that there are some other principles to apply and much work to do but I think I can do it.
Whatever the outcome, at the end of this challenge I know that I will be a better person for it.  And I am satisfied with that for the moment.

The word for 25 April 20014 was OCTAGON
This one really baffles me.  I am not sure how this word will help me.
Eight and Angle
1.       In geometry, a figure of eight sides and eight angles.  When the sides and angles are equal, it is a regular octagon which may be inscribed in a circle.
In fortification, a place with eight bastions.

I know that I am working on fortifying myself against the adversary but I haven't built a fort, or castle, or walled city...physically.  I am just not sure how this applies to the spiritual growth that I am working for.

The word for 26 April 2014 was ORGANIZATION
1.       The act or process of forming organs or instruments of action.
2.       The act of forming or arranging the parts of a compound or complex body in a suitable manner for use or service;  the act of distributing into suitable divisions and appointing the proper officers, as an army or a government.
Structure;  form;  suitable disposition of parts which are to act together in a compound body.

This word resonates with me.  It suggests a couple of different things that matter to me.

  1. The need to look at my resources and organize them in a useful and orderly way.  So that I can reach out and use them...know where they are and what they are good for.
  2. The need to include others in my process.  Sharing one anothers' experiences and skills to achieve goals that are similar.  Like minded people who understand and encourage.
Organizing has never been my strong suit.  But with God nothing is impossible.  I have enlisted His assistance.  I hope I have it in me to follow ALL of His instructions.

The word for 27 April 2014 was ORDER.
     1.       Regular disposition or methodical arrangement of things;  a word of extensive application;  as the order of troops on parade;  the order of books in a library;  the order of proceedings in a legislative assembly.  Order is the life of business.

4.       Established mode of proceeding.  The motion is not in order.
5.       Regularity;  settled mode of operation.  The fact could not occur in the order of nature;  it is against the natural order of things.

11.   A division of natural objects, generally intermediate between class and genus.  The classes, in the Linnaean artificial system, are divided into orders, which include one or more genera.

15.   In architecture, a system of several members, ornaments and proportion of columns and pilasters;  or a regular arrangement of the projecting parts of a building, especially of the columns, so as to form on beautiful whole.
In order, for the purpose;  to the end;  as means to an end.  The best knowledge is that which is of the greatest use in order to our eternal happiness.

ORDER:
1.       To regulate;  to methodize;  to adjust;  to subject to system in management and execution;  as, to order domestic affairs with prudence.
2.       To lead;   to conduct;  to subject to rules or laws.
3.       To direct;  to command.
4.       To manage; to treat.
5.       To ordain
6.       To direct;  to dispose in any particular manner.

I think that I identify most with the part that says "adjust"...  it suggest putting myself in order.  Rearranging myself to get things right.

Working on it!!!  Happily, steadily, cheerfully working on it.

The word for 28 April 2014 was OASIS

Without even looking at the definition I know that I have an oasis...it is the potters' wheel.  I can go there in the midst of all the turmoil that happens in life and find a place of rest and peace.  I am hoping to make a second oasis in meditation...I fall asleep there though.  I suppose that serves a good purpose too but when I meditate I want to be totally awake and aware even though I am calm and peaceful.
     So the definition is:

From Dictionary.com
1.       a small fertile or green area in a desert region, usually having a spring or well.
2.       something serving as a refuge, relief, or pleasant change from what is usual,
annoying, difficult, etc.:The library was an oasis of calm in the hectic city.
From  Merriam-Webster Dictionary
1.    an area in a desert where there is water and plants
2.    a pleasant place that is surrounded by something unpleasant
3.    a time or experience that is pleasant and restful

See --?  the second definition there is the one that rings out to me.  I identify with it. Profoundly.

     Today's word is OUTSIDE

1.       The external part of a thing;  the part, end or side which forms the surface or superficies.
2.       Superficial appearance;  exterior; as the outside of a man or of manners.
3.       Person;  external man.
The part or place that lies without or beyond an enclosure.

This is a sad word to me...well, it has been a sad word to me.  But I am finding that I can make it much happier if I think about it.
When I was growing up I felt like I was always on the outside of every group.  I was different.  I had different values than most of the people knew.  Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (more commonly known as Mormons) I was really different as far as the limited understanding of most people.  I didn't think about going out and drinking or trying to get away with smoking behind the school.  I tried not to use rude language but I didn't master that until I was married, truthfully, I still struggle with that one sometimes.
Being on the outside of a group can be very lonely.  A person can be there only so long until he or she begins to create his or her own group.  Well, I got married and had a family.  :)  I made a group of my own.  I was really really on the inside of that one.
As I have aged.  (don't you love that word?) I have found that I can be on the inside of any group...and still stand by my convictions and live my religion.  The secret is kindness, cheerfulness, and service.  Who knew?

Friday's word - ONENESS; Saturday's word - OPENING; Sunday's word - OPENNESS

ONENESS:
Singleness in number;  individuality;  unity;  the quality of being one.

This word means a couple of things to me.  Taking the 1828 definition and applying to my life it means:
that I am an individual with some unique and interesting qualities, talents and gifts.  That I am unlike anyone else on the planet and yet I can be in unity of purpose with a group or another individual to help to bring to pass any given goal, event, or purpose.  It also means that I can become in unity with God in bringing to pass HIS purposes and goals.
I like the thought of that.  I also think that it takes effort and work, conscious thought, and diligence to accomplish it all.  It takes focus and patience, persistence, and lots and lots of love.

OPENING:
1.       A breach; an aperture;  a hole or perforation.
2.       A place admitting entrance;  as a bay or creek.
3.       Dawn;  first appearance or visibleness;  beginning of exhibition or discovery.

Unclosing;  unsealing;  uncovering;  revealing;  interpreting.

I am going out on a limb here but this feels like a word that means to open the heart and mind to new things.  "A place admitting entrance" - "Beginning of exhibition or discovery."  "Unclosing"  "Unsealing"
There is a lot of that going on with this challenge.  I think it is going to become even more interesting as time goes by because some of these "O" words are really "out there"...not words that I think much about on a regular basis.  It's kind of crazy but I am enjoying this journey.
I am learning a lot about myself.
This word creates a visualization of a slowly opening lotus blossom.  Secrets guarded and protected are being revealed, exposed for what they are, and put away where they belong.  Some are going away...far away...and some are being held closer and cherished, polished and embraced.

OPENNESS:
1.       Freedom from covering or obstruction;  as the openness of a country.
2.       Plainness;  clearness;  freedom from obscurity or ambiguity;  as, deliver your answers with more openness.
3.       Freedom from disguise;  unreservedness;  plainness.
4.       Expression of frankness or candor;  as openness of countenance.
Unusual mildness;  freedom from snow and frost;  as the openness of a winter.

This word has to apply to myself as I deal with myself.  I am learning to be more open with myself.  I am shedding my disguises and learning to be who I really am.  It is kind of fun to be setting myself free of the person that I think everyone wants me to be and just BE how I feel in my heart.
     I like it.
